Alexandro Bernabei backed to seal Celtic starting spot and see off Greg Taylor while suspension mystery continues

Alexandro Bernabei is more than capable of starting ahead of Greg Taylor in the left-back slot at Celtic - but mystery surrounds when he will be able to make his debut in green and white.

The Argentine left-back has signed a long-term deal at Parkhead to become the first from his country to sign for the Premiership champions. Lanus have developed him through their academy and they have now sold him for a seven figure fee on top of a 10 per cent sell-on clause. He will compete with Scotland international Taylor for the starting role.

A headbutt that saw him dismissed in his final Lanus game against Colon has proven intrigue over when he can make his debut, with what is likely to be at least a game suspension hanging over him. But when that passes by, whatever the outcome, Bernabei has been tipped to become Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou's undisputed number one left-back.

According to South American football expert Seba Ongarelli, it's a player the Parkhead faithful should be excited about. The competitive campaign kicks off for the Hoops next month on title day against Aberdeen.

He told Go Radio: "He's the type of player who wants to get into the box. He is a young player so he could stay at Celtic for a long time.

"I think in the first game we will see Greg Taylor playing in that position. That's so Bernabei can get settled into the team.

"But I'm pretty sure Bernabei will be the first choice. I think this move for Bernabei in his career is huge.

"Argentina's FA gave Bernabei a two-match ban so I think he still has to wait another game (before playing for Celtic). But it is not clear in Argentina either."
