Alex Iacovitti attempted Celtic penalty explainer snubbed by Willie Collum after 'scuffed' handball defence

Alex Iacovitti says that he tried to explain to Willie Collum that there was almost nothing to avoid giving a penalty to Celtic in Ross County's 2-0 defeat.

The Premiership clash was heading towards half-time at 0-0 before Cameron Carter-Vickers appeared to head the ball onto the arm of the defender. Willie Collum needed VAR but eventually he went to the monitor and gave Jota the opportunity to score from 12 yards, which was converted ahead of Alexandro Bernabei wrapping things up for Celtic in stoppage time.

But Iacovitti admits he tried to explain why there was little chance of him getting out the situation to referee Collum, which eventually fell on deaf ears. He told Sky Sports: "It is really tough, conceding the penalty with under a minute to half-time was annoying. We reacted well and had a good few chances, and I thought we matched them really well.

"On another day we take a half chance, it's 1-1 and we hang on or whatever. But it's a proud performance from the boys.

"I was explaining to the ref that I was bigger than him so my arm is tied with him. I think he's flicked the ball and it has scuffed my arm.

"I don't know what I can do, it is one of those things but we move on, the reaction was good second half. We just need to keep our heads up."
