Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund break silence on Erik ten Hag sacking at Manchester United

Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund have thanked Erik ten Hag following his departure from Manchester United.

Garnacho was given his first-team debut by former interim manager Ralf Rangnick, but Ten Hag has been credited with overseeing his development into an established starter.

Hojlund was signed by Ten Hag in a deal worth £72million last summer and he scored 16 goals in his first season at the club, which saw United finish eighth in the Premier League.

Both players started in Ten Hag's final game in charge against West Ham at the weekend. United dominated the first half, missing plenty of chances at the London Stadium, but failed to draw first blood and the home side claimed a 2-1 win after a controversial penalty was awarded.

The official confirmation that Ten Hag had been sacked came 10 minutes before midday on Monday and Bruno Fernandes was the first player to speak out following his dismissal.

Hojlund was next to write on social media and the striker wrote: "Thanks for everything boss. Wish u all the best in the future," to the background photo of him making his debut

Garnacho wrote a lengthier farewell post, saying: Thank you for everything, boss. I will always be grateful to you for giving me the opportunity and the confidence to play for this club.

"It hasn’t gone as well as we wanted, but I will remember the good times we had together and I wish you all the best in the future. Thank you very much, Erik."
