Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark strengthens with defensive duo but wants more signings

Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark has strengthened his squad with defender/midfielder Arnie Kasa and centre-back Scott Dunn, but is looking to add more in the near future.

Kasa, 30, started Saturday’s 4-0 South Challenge Cup first round win over Newburgh, having signed on Thursday, while 22-year-old Dunn was on the bench, having signed that day.

Clark says his growing squad means he can rest players for what is a challenging schedule ahead of games, with several midweek encounters.

The Cliftonhill gaffer added: “We’re a very young team, but Arnie is a little bit older, and that little bit of experience will hopefully help us along as well.

“Scott is a fairly experienced player as well, so we’ve added a wee bit more balance to our squad.

“The squad is building, we’ve now got competition for places, whereas if you go back three weeks the team almost picked itself. It’s a healthy position to be in, but I want to try and get another couple of players in before we’re settled, and hopefully that will happen sooner, rather than later.

“With the size of the squad and having a lot of midweek games, a lot of cup games – we’re Saturday-Tuesday continually – you have to try and utilise your whole squad, and give people a bit of a break.

“Joe Bevan didn’t play on Saturday, because he had been carrying a bit of a knock, so the fact that we have other players signed means we can afford to put him on the bench and not use him.

“We’re looking at the schedule and trying to get the right team on the pitch for each game, according to the level of opposition.”

Clark has worked with Dunn and has had a look at former Kelty Hearts star Kasa extensively.
