Albion Rovers battling their way up Lowland League table pleases boss after wins over Bo'ness and East Stirling

Sandy Clark says his in-form Albion Rovers took their battling qualities from shocking Bo’ness United with 10 men last midweek into Saturday’s victory over East Stirling.

The Cliftonhill boss watched his side recover from an Adam Fernie red card and a penalty miss at Bo’ness last Wednesday night to take all three points through a second half Bright Prince goal.

And on Saturday they produced a strong display to sink Clark’s old side Shire in a 3-1 win, courtesy of a Niyah Joseph double and a Joe Bevan strike.

It was a third win on the spin for The Wee Rovers, who have three games in hand over most of the pack following their participation in the Viaplay Cup group stages in July, and they sit 10th in the table, 10 points behind leaders East Kilbride.

Clark said: “Bo’ness had won five out of five going into that game, which was an incredible start for them, so we knew it was going to be a hard game.

“So it was a major bonus getting three points there.

“We had to work really hard for it, missing a penalty and getting a man sent off before getting our goal.

“It showed great character from everyone in the team and we took that performance level and work-rate into the East Stirling game.

“It took us a while to break East Stirling down but once we got in front, I thought there was only ever going to be one winner.

“We could have scored more goals, but I won’t be greedy.

“We are thrilled with six points from the two games.

“We were disappointed to lose our first game against Hearts B and we are still playing catch-up after playing in the League Cup at the start of the season, but we are playing well.”
