Alan Shearer predicts Man Utd disappointment, Prem winner, top four and every place from 1-20

Alan Shearer has disappointed both sides of Manchester with his Premier League table predictions come May.

He's tipped Manchester United to miss out on the top four and Manchester City to lose out on the title. The Newcastle United legend has raised eyebrows with some of his picks ahead of the 2024/25 season which kicks off on Friday (August 16) with the Red Devils hosting Fulham at Old Trafford.

The 54-year-old believes his former club Newcastle will pip Erik ten Hag's side to fourth in the league. Meanwhile, he also predicts Mikel Arteta will lead Arsenal to their first Premier League title since the Invincibles in 2004, bringing an end to City's four-year run of consecutive titles, reports the Express.

Shearer discussed his predictions with Betfair, admitting that while he was impressed with United in their Community Shield defeat to their city rivals this past week, he sees Liverpool and Newcastle as the two clubs joining Arsenal and Man City in the top four.

"I think Liverpool will finish in the top four again. I'd be hopeful of Newcastle because they haven't got European football to contend with this year so in terms of injuries and squad availability, that should help them," he said. "If they can get a free run then I'd be hopeful that Newcastle could finish fourth.

"There are other teams that will be challenging. I was impressed with Man United in the Community Shield. They looked really good and had the better chances - albeit Man City still had a few players out injured or still recovering
