Airdrie 1, Raith Rovers 0: Todorov header stuns league leaders again

Nikolay Todorov was again Airdrie's hero as his first-half strike bagged them another win over Raith Rovers at New Broomfield.

The Diamonds are the only side to beat Rovers in the Championship this term, and have now done it twice, with a draw in the other game.

On-form Nikolay Todorov put Airdrie ahead midway through the first half with his sixth goal of the season and it was no more than the Diamonds deserved.

While Raith started the game with their tails up, Airdrie had come more into it and Todorov himself had warned of the threat he poses before netting his second goal in as many games.

Raith had chances, most notably through Lewis Vaughan and Dan O'Reilly, but faded from the game after Airdrie's goal.

The second half was a much more cagey affair, with much of it played in midfield, and few chances created.

The Diamonds moved clear of rivals Dunfermline, ahead of their visit to East End Park next weekend.

Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe made one change to the side that beat Inverness on Tuesday, with Liam McStravick in for Gavin Gallagher..

His Raith counterpart Ian Murray made two changes to the side that beat Dunfermline on the same evening. Goalkeeper Andrew McNeil replaced injured Kevin Dabrowski, and ex-Diamond Callum Smith came in for Jack Hamilton, who dropped down to the bench.

Rovers threatened first in seven minutes when Smith crossed for Lewis Vaughan, but his header was wide of the right post and was cleared.

Moments later Vaughan tried his luck with an angled drive, but hit the right side-netting.

Kenayo Megwa went close for Airdrie in 10 minutes with a curling effort from the left wing, but McNeil saved it at the right post corner.
