Air ambulance scrambled as motorcyclist is hurt following crash

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital following a crash in Ashton-under-Lyne earlier today. The incident happened on Manchester Road shortly before 2pm.

Pictures from the scene showed paramedics at the scene and the motorbike on its side in the carriageway. One carriageway was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

An air ambulance was also scrambled to the scene - video showed the aircraft landing on Manchester Road and flying away moments later.

Stagecoach Manchester reported that the incident caused some disruption to services as vehicles were diverted onto other roads. The incident is said to have involved a collision between the bike and a vehicle.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance service confirmed the incident involved a motorcycle and said: "The rider, a man in his 50s was taken to hospital with leg injuries. We were called at 13.59."

Greater Manchester Police has been asked for a comment.
