A34 shut LIVE updates as air ambulance lands and police and paramedics attend scene

The A34 bypass in Wilmslow has been closed due to a serious police incident. The air ambulance has landed on the dual carriageway, with police and paramedics also at the scene.

The incident took place close to the Macclesfield Road bridge on the edge of Wilmslow town centre. The bridge is also thought to be closed off.

A witness said a police car was currently blocking the bypass, while two officers could be seen standing guard on the bridge.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports: "A34 Handforth By Pass in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to police incident from A538 (Wilmslow Roundabout) to A538 (Prestbury Roundabout)."

Cheshire Police have been contacted for details of the incident.
