Celtic reinvention as Marco Tilio role for Celtic made clear and forgotten man turns into a striker
A strong Celtic B side featuring Marco Tilio, Mikey Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi battled to a 1-1 draw with Ayr United, Corey Thomson striking late to deny Michael Moffat the glory on his testimonial.
And while a number of the Parkhead fringe men were in action at Somerset Park, another (for those who remember Yosuke Ideguchi) has been reinventing himself as a STRIKER in Japan. Starting in Ayrshire, Celtic sent a team to mark the occasion for an Honest Men legend as Moffat winds down his career at the club after ten years over two spells. Lee Bullen changed his entire XI from their stunning Friday night win at Hampden and while it was a Celtic select they were facing rather than Brendan Rodgers' first team, there were more than a few familiar faces.
The Hoops started with a wide pairing of Johnston and Rocco Vata and they both did their bit to capture the manager's attention. Johnston, up against Lincoln City loanee Elicha Ahui, particularly impressed and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with a first-half effort that was parried away by Robbie Mutch.
New signing from Australia Liam Bonnetig strolled it in the heart of defence alongside the more senior Yuki Kobayashi while Kwon, who has endured a tricky start to life in Scotland, started in an experimental midfield three which included Tilio in a more central role than many fans might have expected to see when the lineup came out.
The Hoops dominated much of the play but fell behind to Franny Amartey in the first half. and despite the first-team experience on the Somerset Park turf, it was left to Scotland U18 striker Thomson to come up with the equaliser, firing past backup keeper Mutch from the edge of the box. Here's how the teams lined up....
