Adam Idah to Celtic transfer strongly answered by Norwich boss who tries to stamp out a flaming rumour

In-demand Adam Idah was left out of the Norwich City squad as they kick off their pre-season campaign - but it may not pave an imminent return to Celtic amid rising speculation.

Brendan Rodgers has openly stated that he is keen to bring the Ireland international back to Celtic Park this summer after a successful loan spell in Glasgow's east end - which saw Idah return to Carrow Road with a Premiership and Scottish Cup winners medal in his pocket. But new Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup has attempted to put the brakes on a permanent switch north of the border as he insists he wants to run the rule over Idah before making a decision on his future.

So, the move to leave the frontman out of the squad for the pre-season clash with Northampton raised eyebrows among Celtic fans and supporters of the English Championship side. Brendan Rodgers is set to take his side for a pre-season tour of America in the coming days before facing Manchester City, DC United and Chelsea - adding to speculation that a deal could be close.

However, Hoff Thorup has moved to play down social media swirls that the 23-year-old could already be heading for the exit door. The striker had been involved in Ireland's end of season fixtures - and now appears to have been handed an extended break before returning to join his Norwich teammates in regular training.

Speaking on his absence after the 1-0 win, the boss said: "He was back in Monday and Tuesday doing his testing. He will be back with the group from this week."
