Abdallah Sima is perfect Rangers fit for now as Brighton loan boss details script flip from previous loan spell
Rangers are the perfect fit for Abdallah Sima according to Brighton loans boss Gordon Greer - for now.
Philippe Clement wants to strike a permanent deal for the Senegal international who has netted 15 goals since making the switch to Ibrox from the Seagulls last summer. But Greer insists the Premier League club are “really happy” with Sima’s development in Govan on a temporary basis two years after they shelled out over £6m to sign the 22-year-old from Slavia Prague. Former Scotland defender Greer, officially titled Brighton’s pathway development manager, has made several trips north to watch the 22-year-old in action.
And he reckons Rangers' attacking style with Sima playing off the left of the frontline suits him to a tee. He said: “I’ve been up twice in the last few weeks to see him and he’s a great kid. He’s worked really hard. It wasn’t easy at the start for him, but he’s banging a few goals in and it’s great to see him doing so well.
"He has got some really good and strong attributes. You can see it in the games, especially sometimes when they play a wee bit deeper and you can see him explode into the space.
“We’re really happy. Last year he was with Angers in France and I monitored him over there. The club were happy that he was getting the minutes, but they were not a great side. They struggled in a lot of games, so flipped it on its head this year.
“He’s gone to a team that should be sort of knocking the door down in Rangers, so he’s getting the chances and scoring the goals, which is great for him. So we are really happy with how he is doing.”
Meanwhile Greer, who won 11 caps for Scotland and made over 230 appearances for Brighton, is backing Steve Clarke’s side to make the country proud at this summer’s
