Aaron Ramsey backed for Rangers shootout recovery as Wales boss tips 'world class' star for Scotland redemption

Wales boss Rob Page says he won't hesitate to put Aaron Ramsey on penalty duties against Scotland or Ukraine despite his miss for Rangers against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Light Blues squad have rallied around the midfielder after his miss from 12 yards in a heartbreaking penalty shootout sealed Europa League glory for their opponents in Seville.

He came off the bench in extra time after Joe Aribo's goal for the Premiership club put Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side ahead.

Rafael Borre levelled things up and Ramsey was the only one to miss during a devastating 5-4 shootout loss.

There's little time to feel sorry though with a Scottish Cup Final against Hearts this Saturday and Wales' crucial World Cup play off match to come next month, for which the Juventus loanee has been called up.

They'll take on either Steve Clarke's Scotland or Ukraine on June 5 for a place at this winter's tournament, with Page backing his key enforcer to rise to the big occasion if it goes down to penalties.

The 47-year-old said: "It happens to the best in the world. Top players , they put themselves up.

“I am so proud of him for putting himself up, he is a world-class footballer.

“He had the courage and conviction to take a penalty. Top players recover from that, no problem.

“I have no doubt whatsoever if it comes to penalties that he will take one.”
