Giorgios Giakoumakis sets post Celtic transfer target as he lays out dream career path

Giorgios Giakoumakis is far from retiring - but the Celtic forward will want to call it a day with OFI Crete when that decision comes.

The striker had an injury-hit start to life at Parkhead following a blistering run of goals in the Netherlands with VVV-Venlo.

He's stormed back in 2022 and ends this season as a Premiership title winner following 17 goals from 29 outings in green and white.

It's been a fine period for the confident hitman but he is already looking years into the future beyond Ange Postecoglou 's side.

Back in his native Greece following last weekend's title celebrations, the former AEK Athens star has been pondering a return to where he spent a short loan stint in 2019.

OFI are his local club and Giakoumakis says it's his ambition to wrap up his playing days with in his homeland.

He told Neakriti: “Yes, of course it is true (on wanting a future move to OFI). I was very close to signing with OFI as a free agent and not on loan.

“I really wanted to but in the end AEK decided to keep me on the roster. I did not have much room, so I agreed. I would ideally like to end my career with the team I love, OFI.”

National team ambition is also on the Greek forward's mind.

Capped eight times by his country, they haven't been at a major international tournament since 2014. Giakoumakis wants to help change that.

The 27-year-old added: "I can say that I no longer put limits on my ambitions. I dream of reaching the highest level. To win many more trophies.

"Definitely one of my dreams is to distinguish our national team again by participating in some great event."
