'A pathetic question' - Reading boss Paul Ince makes bizarre claim after 3-0 Hull City thrashing

Reading interim boss Paul Ince described his side's 3-0 thumping at Hull City as a 'fantastic day' after the Royals secured their Championship safety, despite falling to a convincing defeat. Peterborough United's 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest saw Reading safe while sending Grant McCann's Posh back to League One.

A terrific brace from Keane Lewis-Potter and a first City goal for Alfie Jones saw the Tigers claim a deserved victory and back up last Friday's first home win in seven, against a below-par Reading side, though Ince saw it somewhat differently.

When asked if his day in East Yorkshire was bittersweet given the heavy nature of the Royals' defeat combined with safety in the Championship, Ince reacted angrily to the nature of the question, before going on to highlight his desire to get back on the golf course after a two-month absence following his surprise appointment at the SCL Stadium.

"I don't get that question. It's actually a pathetic question. This is the problem with some of you guys (media) - all you worry about is results," a furious Ince told Berkshire Live.

"I've had this question so many times - we're not disappointed. The common goal was to stay in the Championship and we've done that. You can't win every game so I hate to see the word disappointment.

"I'm not disappointed. Why am I disappointed? Two months ago this club was going down. But these players and fans have managed to keep them up. That's the common goal - not losing to Hull - a game we dominated in the first half and had enough chances in the second. I don't want people to talk about disappointment - it baffles me.
