6 Lawrence Shankland to Rangers for and against arguments as leading pundits tell Hearts what they MUST do next

As the net bulged after his dramatic late Edinburgh derby winner at Easter Road, the debate of Lawrence Shankland’s future at Hearts cranked up yet another notch with speculation over a potential move to Rangers now into overdrive.

It’s a transfer that has long been talked about and debated with former Rangers striker Kenny Miller writing as far back as July in his exclusive Sunday Mail column that the Scotland hitman would have been a smarter move for Michael Beale than many of the players the Englishman signed during his summer spending spree.

You would be hard pushed now to find a Rangers fan who would disagree that the £3.5 million splashed on Sam Lammers would have been better spent on Shankland or even Cyriel Dessers for all there has been a marked improvement in the former Cremonese man. But what about NOW? Having spent what they did in the summer, how much should Rangers push the boat out for Shankland if Philippe Clement is indeed interested and there was more to that warm hug from the Belgian for the Jambos striker after their recent clash at Tynecastle.

Shankland is contracted at Tynecastle until the end of next season and he was relaxed when quizzed on his future at full time and in no rush to sit down to talk about an extension, saying only: “I'm under contract here and I've got 18 months left so I wouldn't have much of a choice if they pulled me in the meeting room.”
