3 things we definitely learnt about Sheffield United after their 3-2 penalty shootout loss v Forest

Sheffield United travelled to Nottingham Forest last night for the second leg of their play-off semi-final but were not able to overcome their opponents to make it to the final. 

The Blades put up a good fight after conceding an early goal which made it 3-1 to Forest on aggregate, but two second half goals levelled the score and took the game to extra time.

Neither side was able to find the net in the extra 30 minutes which meant the game was settled on penalties which saw Forest progress as Brice Samba saved the penalties of Oliver Norwood, John Fleck and Morgan Gibbs-White.

The result means Forest will face Huddersfield in the play-off final whilst Paul Heckingbottom’s side are set for another season in the Championship.

Here, we take a look at three things we clearly learnt about the Blades after last night’s game.

Paul Heckingbottom’s drilled a strong attitude into his players

Sheffield United showed great tenacity in last night’s game to get themselves back into the game.

Considering they went into the game 2-1 down after losing the first leg and then conceded a goal in the 19th minute, we could have easily seen the Blades capitulate and lose the game.

However, their mindset going into this game was that it was a battle to be won and they certainly showed that mentality in the second half as they came out fighting and scored two goals to force the game to extra time.

Although they lost on penalties in the end, the fact they were able to take it to the very end is credit to the attitude the players have and their commitment to getting a job done.

The pressure was just too much for them

Despite generally doing well throughout the game and showing a strong mindset, the Blades fell short in the penalty shootout.
