A large portion of the current Derby County squad are at a crossroads this summer, having to decide whether to prioritise the security of their careers or that of the Rams.

The Rams will not be able to operate as a fully functioning League One club in the transfer window until Chris Kirchner’s takeover is completed, and with that situation dragging on, players will be looking elsewhere with their futures in mind.

Derby will face fierce competition in looking to bounce back to the Championship next season, and they are losing ground on their opponents with every day that passes without a solution off the pitch.

Curtis Davies

Davies was a rock at the heart of defence for the Rams this season and showed that he is still a very capable Championship defender at the age of 27.

The former Hull City man reaches the expiration of his contract this summer, and despite his age, there will be second tier clubs who see him as value in the market.

Davies won the club’s Player of the Season award and built a great relationship with Rams supporters over the course of the season, however, with the risk of becoming unattached looming large, the towering defender will be considering his options.

Krystian Bielik

Bielik could be set for an uncertain few weeks for very different reasons to Davies.

The 24-year-old has two years left on his contract at Pride Park, and is probably taking up a sizeable spot on the wage bill after his transfer from Arsenal in the summer of 2019.

The Poland international is far too good for League One level, and financially the Rams need to offload him, but picking up an injury towards the end of the season could put that in
