Update emerges regarding Hull City’s pursuit of Derby County defender Curtis Davies

Hull City are unlikely to seal a deal for Curtis Davies this summer, according to a report from Hull Live.

It is understood that the Tigers have held talks with the defender over the possibility of him sealing a return to the MKM Stadium.

However, Davies is believed to be keen on extending his stay at Pride Park.

A Patreon report from journalist Alan Nixon last month initially highlighted Hull’s interest in the centre-back.

The 37-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of June and thus he will become a free-agent if fresh terms cannot be agreed with Derby.

The Rams are facing an uncertain future as prospective owner Chris Kirchner still hasn’t completed a takeover deal.

A report from BBC Sport has suggested that Kirchner’s attempt to purchase Derby is now expected to collapse.

Davies made 144 appearances for Hull in all competitions before securing a move to Pride Park in 2017.

Although he was unable to prevent the Rams from suffering relegation to the third-tier earlier this year, the defender did produce some assured performances in the Championship as he started in all 46 of the club’s league fixtures.

The Verdict

Although it is important to note that a move for Davies cannot be ruled out entirely due to the fact that his future at Derby is still relatively uncertain, Hull may now need to move on to other targets following this update.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Davies still managed to demonstrate that he is more than capable of competing in the Championship as he averaged an impressive WhoScored match rating of 6.96 at this level last season.
