'Hilarious' column blunder in The Observer says Happy Mondays' Rowetta 'has Norwegian wife and is a Spurs fan'

A 'hilarious' column blunder in The Observer said that Happy Mondays singer Rowetta has a 'Norwegian wife' and 'is a Spurs fan'.

The 'Sunday With...' column, that interviews a different celebrity each week in the Guardian's sister title, was published on October 1 seeming to feature a chat with the Mancunian singer about 'roasts, Spurs and early nights'.

However, it quickly became clear that the comments were not that of Rowetta Satchells and rather somebody else, after claiming she has 'introduced' Sunday roasts to her Norwegian wife and is an avid supporter of Tottenham Hotspur FC, whose games she watches 'whenever she can'.

Sharing a picture of the column on Sunday (October 1) to social media site X, the singer wrote: "Obviously I’m not a Spurs fan and don’t have a Norwegian wife!" She went on to claim the answers were instead that of actor Mathew Horne, adding: "I thought it was just online but apparently also in print."

Another user shared a link to the online version of the interview, which now appears to have been removed from the website 'pending review', writing: "Hi Rowetta, so according to the Observer this morning (online version anyway), you have a Norwegian wife, a 15 month old son, and (best sit down for this one) you're a big Tottenham supporter!"

The article featured a picture of the 57-year-old singer with the headline: "Sunday with Rowetta: I find watching Tottenham play relaxing and therapeutic."
