Manchester United centre-back Jonny Evans has revealed the piece of advice Sir Alex Ferguson gave him after the infamous 6-1 derby day defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The Reds were one goal down at the break thanks to Mario Balotelli's goal but were still in the contest before Evans was dismissed early into the second half.

Referee Mark Clattenburg chose to award a straight red card after the Northern Irish international brought the Italian striker down to deny a goalscoring opportunity.

Following Evans' dismissal, the floodgates opened with Balotelli and Sergio Aguero scoring to put the game out of reach. Darren Fletcher pulled a goal back to make the scoreline briefly respectable with less than ten minutes to go but an Edin Dzeko brace and David Silva strike made it a dismal afternoon for all those of a red persuasion.
