Lisandro Martinez was pleased with how Manchester United defended against Tottenham on Wednesday night. Martinez started at centre-back alongside Raphael Varane and the pair kept a clean sheet for the second time in just four days.

United defeated Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford and they were good value for that result after a dominant display. Although there were doubts about whether Martinez could adapt to the Premier League due to his diminutive stature, the player has emphatically silenced his critics this season and he's now become a fan favourite for his consistent performances. "Yeah, I think we did a top performance tonight," Martinez told MUTV. "We controlled the game, we played fantastic football and I'm really happy for that, really happy because this team deserves it, we always try hard and we always want to play this level." When asked specifically about stopping Kane and Son, the centre-back admitted that both players have a lot of quality. "I think we were very solid tonight, in defence.

They [Tottenham] have some of the best players in the league, they have a lot of quality, they're very strong, very technical as well.

I think we controlled the game tonight," Martinez added. "It's great to get a clean sheet. We have to keep going [was the message at half-time], you know.
