West Ham have completed their second signing of the summer transfer window by securing goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from PSG on a five-year deal with an option of a further year.
The French shot-stopper spent last season on loan at the London Stadium where he was primarily used as a cup keeper, keeping five clean sheets in ten Europa League matches as West Ham reached the semi-finals.
The Hammers expressed an early interest in activating a buy option clause in Areola’s contract which they have now confirmed, paying a reported £11million fee.
A French international who was part of his country’s World Cup-winning squad in 2018, Areola is the West Ham’s second signing of the summer following the £30million arrival of Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd last week.
