Andre Russell-mania was on full display at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday as Kolkata Knight Riders edged past Punjab Kings in an IPL 2023 game on the last ball.

Chasing a challenging target of 180, KKR were 124/4 in 15.2 overs as skipper Nitish Rana departed after scoring a half-century.

In came Andre Russell. The West Indies allrounder was not having a good time with the bat till the match against PBKS. But on Monday, the old Russell again came out.

He and Rinku Singh regularly got boundaries as KKR reached 154/4 in 18 overs, needing 26 runs in 12 balls. Then Russell did what does best as he smacked three sixes off Sam Curran as KKR got 20 runs off the penultimate over.

He could be seen smiling after getting bowled. Former India cricketers Yusuf Pathan and Harbhajan Singh were clearly not impressed with the act. Yusuf went to the extent of saying that had they been in the PBKS set up, they would not have picked for laughing after playing a poor shot.

Though the match -- what could be CSK's final game of the season at home if they don't qualify for the playoffs -- ended in a loss to Kolkata Knight Riders, the players of the side made sure the fans didn't go their homes disappointed. MS Dhoni was the epi-centre of the lap of honour that took place at Chepauk on Sunday night.
Nitish Rana was left fuming at the umpires at one stage during Kolkata Knight Riders' IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. The incident took place ahead of the last over of CSK's innings. Vaibhav Arora was about to bowl the last over with set batters Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja in the crease. However, due to their slow over rate, KKR received punishment. Under new rules, they became bound to keep a maximum of four fielders outside the circle instead of five. Visuals showed that Rana lashed out at the umpires and got involved in a heated argument with them.
