Tottenham: Antonio Conte must unleash £25m star at Hotspur Way

Tottenham should start midfielder Yves Bissouma against his former club Brighton & Hove Albion, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge. The summer signing has been starved of opportunities following his £25m move from the Seagulls, but Bridge reckons now is the time to unleash him.

When Bissouma arrived at Tottenham, he looked certain to walk straight into Antonio Conte’s midfield. But some two months into the season, his only start came when Rodrigo Bentancur was injured and missed out at West Ham.

Bissouma has made eight appearances in all competitions, but he’s racked up just 160 minutes in total and was overlooked by Conte against Frankfurt in midweek when the north Londoners were in desperate need of some fresh legs from the bench.

Conte was recently quizzed on Bissouma’s lack of game-time and revealed the Mali international is struggling tactically. “The only player that is struggling a bit with the tactical aspect is Bissouma, but also he is improving a lot in every aspect,” the Italian said. “I am sure when we start again and play 12 games, for sure he is another player I can count on, but I try to take the best decision for the player because I want to protect the player.” Despite Conte’s comments last month, Bridge reckons that the Amex Stadium is the perfect time to hand Bissouma a start.
