Tonbridge have signed former Charlton midfielder Johl Powell from Dulwich Hamlet. Powell, 21, came through the youth ranks at the Valley before turning pro, making his debut in a Football League Trophy tie against Leyton Orient in November 2020.

He had a loan spell at Maidstone in the 21/22 season, scoring an injury-time winner in a 3-2 victory against St Albans. Powell trained with the Stones after leaving Charlton but eventually joined Dulwich, scoring six times in 27 games.

Angels boss Jay Saunders told the club website: “Johl has impressed me every time I’ve seen him with his energy, enthusiasm and goalscoring ability. “He has all the tools to really push on and hopefully we can help him do that.” Powell said: “From my time at Charlton, I knew Jeremy Santos and Dylan Gavin (ex-Angels loanees) and they had nothing but good things to say about the club. “Once I got the call from Jay I wanted to get here straight away.

I can’t wait to get going, scoring goals and winning games.” Powell is Tonbridge’s second summer signing, following the arrival of Joe Boachie from Hungerford yesterday.
