"To Refresh Memory": Asian Council's Blunt Reminder To Pakistan Minister Over Asia Cup Remark

As Pakistan continues to change its stance on the venue chaos pertaining to the Asia Cup and the World Cup, a senior Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has sent a firm reminder to the nation's Sports Minister who threatened to not send his team for ODI World Cup in India.

The Sports Minister Ehsan Mazari said that Babar Azam's men will not travel to India for the World Cup if the BCCI doesn't send its team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.

After Pakistan Cricket Board boss Zaka Ashraf and BCCI secretary Jay Shah met in Durban, however, it was finalised that the Asia Cup will indeed be held in the proposed hybrid model.

India, in all likelihood, will play Pakistan in Dambulla just like 2010 edition. Pakistan's only home match in their country will be against minnows Nepal.

Former India fast bowler RP Singh said pacer Umran Malik will have to improve his skills as a bowler as speed alone cannot be his weapon, adding that he is one of the bowlers in fray to play in the World Cup. “You have a good number of matches before the World Cup. He can get 5-6 games in the Asia Cup, and three more matches (against Australia). Umran has the advantage of pace. But the issue with him is the skill — his deliveries do not move much,” RP Singh said. “In international cricket, speed alone cannot be the only weapon. You have to make a game-plan as well, and that is something he is not learning as quickly as he should. He also concedes a lot of runs. But he seems to be in the loop for the World Cup because he has the pace." “But he should also get game-time. You cannot have someone playing one match and then sitting out for two. If you think Umran is a long-term option then he has to be polished accordingly,” said RP Singh during an interaction organised by Jio Cinema.

While reports claimed that the main focus of the meeting was going to be the date of the highly-anticipated match between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 15, there has been no change in the date of the game. Due to the first day of Navratri falling on October 15, some reports claimed that the India-Pakistan match will be shifted to October 14.

After dominating the proceedings in the two-match Test series, Team India are once again favourites going into the three-match ODI series, starting later on Thursday. During their last ODI series against West Indies in the Caribbean Islands, the visitors had swept the series 3-0, despite the absence of some big names. As the Rohit Sharma-led side gears up for the series, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja eyes a huge milestone. Jadeja is just four wickets away from becoming the leading wicket-taker in India vs West Indies ODIs.
