Threave Rovers’ season ended in a cup final defeat on Saturday. The Castle Douglas side had been hoping to round off the campaign with a trophy after winning promotion from the West of Scotland league’s fourth division.

However, they left New Abbey empty handed after being beaten 2-1 by Lochar Thistle in the Cree Lodge Cup final. Boss Vinnie Parker said: “It’s unfortunate we’ve ended the season with a defeat but there’s not much you can do about it. “We have a few things we can look at and work on.

The lads have been brilliant all season and it’s the first time they’ve lost in 14 games. These things happen, we can’t be too hard on them. “It’s disappointing but it was probably a step too far to ask for such a big performance after investing so much into the league campaign. “It was our first game using the new camera and I’ve watched it back – the stats are showing we had 76 per cent possession so we’ve had plenty of the ball, we’ve just not used it right. “We’d had a few weeks off and you could probably tell we’ve not played for a few weeks.” Lochar took the lead with a fine free kick from Iain Anderson but Threave drew level after the break, Dean Brotherston scoring after good work from Alex Henderson.

That led to extra-time and it was Lochar who emerged on top, Robbie Hogg striking to take the cup back to Dumfries. Parker added: “We were lacking sharpness in terms of decision making. “The first goal was a debatable free-kick but it’s a decent finish and there’s not much you can do about it. “The second one, we’ve loaded their box and made the wrong decision to shoot from 30 yards. “It’s broken to Hugh Cameron who has been a bit unlucky and he’s been dispossessed.
