Sunderland will take on League One Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in the Carabao Cup first round. The Black Cats will travel to South Yorkshire to face Darren Moore's Owls in the week beginning August 8.

The draw - which is regionalised at this stage - was made live on Sky Sports News this afternoon, with former Sheffield Wednesday striker Clinton Morrison drawing the home teams and ex-Spurs and Hull City defender Michael Dawson the away sides.

The tie will come just three months after the sides met in the League One play-off semi-final, with Sunderland winning on aggregate to reach Wembley and then defeating Wycombe in the final to secure promotion to the Championship.

The sides last met in this competition in August 2018, also at the first round stage, and on that occasion Wednesday won 2-0 at the Stadium of Light.
