The IPL 2025 retention list will be out soon. As this time it will be a mega auction, there is a lot of interest of which players the franchises will retain.

Among the top players, there has been a lot of question marks on whether Rohit Sharma will continue with Mumbai Indians, a team that he led to five IPL titles.

He was at the centre of much-discussed captaincy change last year, with Hardik Pandya replacing him. However, according to a report by Indian Express, MI are likely to retain Rohit along with three other star cricketers.

The report claims that along with Rohit, MI are also looking to retain Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav. Rohit Sharma is currently leading the Indian cricket team in the first Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has seen a dramatic decline in his ICC Test batting ranking, dropping to his lowest position since December 2018 in the latest ICC update on Wednesday. This update brought notable changes across the rankings, with one of the most striking shifts being Sharma's nine-place drop from 15th to 24th, according to Wisden. This marks his lowest ranking in nearly six years. Previously, he had fallen to 44th after scoring 63 not out and 5 against Australia in Melbourne in December 2018.
The echoes of India's series defeat against New Zealand is unlikely to lose its buzz in the coming weeks. It was for the first time in 12 years that the Indian team lost a Test series at home, losing the first two matches of the 3-Test series against the Kiwis. While India produced a commendable fightback in the first Test, the second match saw them decimated by the touring side. Dinesh Karthik, former India wicket-keeper, refused to spare skipper Rohit Sharma's blushes after the conclusion of the Pune Test.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri has said that Rohit Sharma is too proud a man to take India's series loss against New Zealand lightly. India lost a home Test series for the first time since 2012 against New Zealand, under Rohit's leadership. After the second Test defeat, Rohit Sharma had asked for celebration of 12 years of no defeats rather than digging into the negatives of one series loss. However, Shastri believes that Rohit will not rest on his laurels, but will be hurting.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has raised doubts over Rohit Sharma's retention by Mumbai Indians ahead of the India Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction later this year. However, the spinner, who has won three IPL titles under Rohit's captaincy for Mumbai, feels that the opening batter will be retained after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Other than Rohit, the veteran cricketer believes captain Hardik Pandya, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, batter Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma will be retained by the franchise to keep their core group intact before the mega auction.
As the Indian cricket team stares at a whitewash against New Zealand, having already lost 2 matches of the series, captain Rohit Sharma has been sent a bold message to eave out Jasprit Bumrah. Arguably the finest pace bowler in the country, Bumrah hasn't been effective as much as the team would've liked him to be on spin-friendly pitches against New Zealand. Ahead of the third Test in Wankhede, Dinesh Karthik has told the Indian team management to give Bumrah a rest ahead of the Australia tour.
The Indian cricket team is facing severe criticism after losing the Test series at home against New Zealand in Pune. The visiting side is 2-0 up after the first two Tests in the three-match series with a chance of clean sweep not being ruled out. This is the first time after 12 years that India have lost a Test series at home. The last time it happened MS Dhoni was still the captain of the Indian cricket team. The loss has also dented India's chances to qualify for the World Test Championship final.
