Emergency services remain on the scene in Stockport this morning and residents remain evacuated from their homes after 'hazardous materials' were discovered in a house - sparking a major incident.

Bomb disposal units, forensic officers, police and fire crews swarmed Middleton Road in Reddish yesterday (Thursday) following the discovery.

Police said the house was first searched 'in response to intelligence about the manufacture of illegal fireworks'. A huge cordon was put in place and a major incident was declared. 'Worried' residents 'frantically packed their bags' as they were evacuated from their homes. He was held under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act. This morning, emergency crews remain on the scene. Crews have worked through the night to 'remove the hazardous materials without endangering any property or person, but this is taking some time'.
