Police issue statement as they probe alleged taxi rank assault involving Labour MP Mike Amesbury

Police in Cheshire are investigating an alleged assault following an incident involving a Labour MP. Mike Amesbury, a former Manchester councillor who is now MP for Runcorn and Helsby, was filmed following in the early hours of this morning (October 26) on Main Street in Frodsham, Cheshire.

In footage circulating on social media, he can be seen pointing at a man lying on the ground. He is heard saying: "You won't ever threaten your MP ever again, will you?" Cheshire Police has confirmed it is looking into the matter.

A force spokesperson said: "At 2.48am on Saturday, October 26, police were called to reports of an assault in Frodsham. A caller reported he had been assaulted by a man in Main Street.
