Philippe Clement’s 'excuse' doesn't wash with Rangers fans as Thelin’s Aberdeen revolution blows claim out the water

Philippe Clement has been taken to task over his Rangers ‘work in progress’ comment. After Rangers laboured to a 2-1 win over St Mirren, the manager claimed it takes time for his "new" players to gel.

But fans were quick to point to next opponents Aberdeen’s flying start under new boss Jimmy Thelin with similar changes. The Belgian pointed to the fact that the Light Blues started with seven summer signings in the 2-1 win over the Buddies, in which his side were criticised for their display, with one of those players – on-loan Wolfsburg man Vaclav Cerny – grabbing the winning goal at Ibrox.

Cerny was joined by fellow loanee Neraysho Kasanwirjo, Robin Propper, Jefte, Connor Barron, Nedim Bajrami and Hamza Igamane in making up the seven new recruits in the starting XI.

But after some changes with his team toiling, Rangers ended the game with just three of the new boys left on the park. Twenty four hours earlier, Aberdeen ended their game with one MORE summer signing as they grabbed a late victory against Dundee United to continue their unbeaten start to the season and hit the Scottish Premiership summit until Celtic replaced them on Sunday.
