Steven Davis hopes “breath of fresh air” Philippe Clement has just started a long and successful career at Rangers. But the Ibrox veteran has opened up on his professional and personal reasons for stepping back from the Belgian’s coaching set-up to concentrate on rehabilitation from his serious knee issue.
Davis is fighting to regain full fitness having suffered his devastating injury 11 months ago. During the 38-year-old’s recovery, he was asked to take interim charge of the team last month after the dismissal of Michael Beale.
Davis lost in Europe to Aris Limassol but engineered a crucial win at St Mirren to ensure Clement walked into a winning dressing room when he took charge the following week.
The Belgian has kicked on from that point with six wins in seven games to course fresh optimism throughout the club. Davis is thrilled by Clement’s impact and said: “Really impressed.
