Wythenshawe Town Football Club have been suspended from the league for breaking financial fair play rules. The Northern Premier League say the club has 'not provided details of the full extent of its debt' despite being given 'several extensions to do so'.

In a now deleted statement released earlier today, the club, who currently sit fifth in the Northern Premier League's Western Division, claimed the suspension was due to the 'requested documentation not being submitted to the league in the correct format'.

The club's board of directors claimed to have sent the documentation electronically when the league required it in written form.

But in a statement tonight the league strongly refuted those claims. READ MORE: Dwight Yorke new job confirmed as former Manchester United star shows true colours It read:"In such circumstances, the NPL does not normally make any comment.
