Paralympians shine in City of Light: a look back at unforgettable moments from Paris 2024

Another Paralympics is in the books — but certainly one not soon to be forgotten. With an incredible 2.5 million tickets sold, the 17th Summer Paralympic Games in Paris brought back the kind of energetic and unparalleled atmosphere that was glaringly absent during the COVID-held Tokyo Games in 2021.

Paralympians who felt they didn't get the "full Paralympic experience" in Tokyo got it in spades in the French capital, elevating their achievements into the moments they had dreamed of.

Those eleven days in Paris showcased the monumental power of Para sport and the awe-inspiring athleticism of its competitors, giving us a wealth of unforgettable highlights, inspiring displays and tear-jerking triumphs.

Here's a look at some of our favourites. While every Games has its share of records, the Paris Paralympics were also host to a different kind of historic feat.

India's campaign at the Paris Paralympics 2024 concluded with the country fetching a total of 29 medals. On Sunday, Pooja Ojha was the only remaining athlete in action, but she failed to finish inside the top three spots to miss the final berth of the women's kayak single 200m KL1 sprint canoeing event. India, hence, couldn't reach the elusive 30-medal mark at the Paris Games but did manage to better the Tokyo Games tally where the contingent had gathered a total of 19 medals. In the process, India finished the Paris games with record haul of seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze medals, set to finish 18th in the overall medals tally.

India's Schedule At Paris Paralympics 2024, September 7: India continues to shine at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024. The country has already hit its best medal tally in the history of the Para Games. India won a total of 26 medals; 6 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze. High jumper Praveen Kumar, shooter Avani Lekhara, javelin thrower Sumit Antil, archer Harvinder Singh, badminton star Nitesh Kumar and club thrower Dharambir Nain are the stars who bagged the top honour for India. India's Simran Sharma qualified for the women's 100m -T12 final after finishing second in the semifinal 2, clocking 12.33 sconds at the Paris Paralympics, here at the Stade de France on Thursday. Accompanied by her guide Abhay Singh, the 24-year-old reigning world champion Simran finished second behind Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt of Germany in the semifinal 2. Simran sealed her place in the final as the third fastest runner. As per the rule, the first-placed runner in each semifinal and the next 2 fastest advanced to the final. Omara Durand of Cuba topped the first semifinal.
Paris Paralympics 2024 Live Updates Day 8: The Indian contingent will look to take the medal tally past the 25-mark at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 on Thursday. The action will get under with the Mixed 50m Rifle Prone SH1 qualification where Sidhartha Babu and Mona Agarwal will be in action. In Mixed Team Recurve Open (Pre Quarterfinals), Pooja and Harvinder Singh will eye medal. Later in the day, India's Ashok will take part in Men's up to 65kg powerlifting final. In men's shot put, Arvind will also lead India's charge in the F35 final.

Having already achieved their best-ever tally at the Paralympics, Indian athletes are aiming to go past the 25-mark. They can do so on Thursday itself.
