Ruben Amorim looks set to become the sixth permanent manager of Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement 11 years ago.
The Sporting CP manager has agreed terms with United, with only a compensation package to be thrashed out, following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on Monday.
The 39-year-old - who played at Old Trafford twice during his playing career - has won two Portuguese titles, including last season’s crown.
He previously won the league-and-cup double in 2020/21 before defending the Taca da Liga cup the following campaign. Attaining a 71.7 per cent win ratio with Sporting, Amorim was said to be of interest to Liverpool earlier this year before their appointment of Arne Slot.
