Manchester United are working on a late deal to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. Amrabat, 26, was one of 10 midfielders United shortlisted at the start of the summer but the club have shown a lack of conviction about the Morocco international.
However, with Friday's transfer deadline looming there has been a shift and United are now looking to sign Amrabat on loan, having claimed that if he were to leave Fiorentina it would be for another club.
Agency sources indicated United were under-promising ahead of over-delivering, but the possible addition of Amrabat would still raise questions about the club's strategy in the market.
