Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo decision slammed in wake of Wout Weghorst performances

Manchester United's decision to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to be replaced by Wout Weghorst has been labelled 'one of the worst in football history.' The Portugal legend left Old Trafford shortly before the World Cup, as Erik ten Hag then signed Dutch striker Weghorst on loan in the January transfer window to strengthen his forward options.

The Netherlands international has scored just two goals since arriving and is yet to find the net in the Premier League. Ronaldo subsequently joined Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr and bagged a brace in Tuesday night's 5-0 victory over Al Adalah.

Following that game Piers Morgan, whose Talk TV interview with Ronaldo hastened the 38-year-old's exit, wasted no time in taking aim at Ten Hag over the former Real Madrid man's departure. During Morgan's interview with Ronaldo, the Portugal star criticised Ten Hag, the Glazers and former teammates Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney.

His replacement Weghorst has struggled for form and goals and was criticised for his display in the weekend 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United.
