Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has set his sights on signing Cody Gakpo as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo and the Dutchman is confident the PSV Eindhoven star would be a success at Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones. The Red Devils recorded their second consecutive win thanks to overcoming Southampton on Saturday, but ten Hag could sanction signings and departures ahead of Thursday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United have submitted a £25million take-it-or-leave-it bid for PSV star Gakpo. The report suggests ten Hag, who took over as the Red Devils’ chief during the summer, has given the green light to strike a deal for the 23-year-old.
However, it is understood that PSV value Gakpo at £35million and are unwilling to sanction his departure unless their demands are met.
With the wide-man’s contract still having three years remaining, the Eredivisie giants are in a strong negotiating position.
