Live updates as man sentenced for wife's murder after car fire near Swansea hospital

A man is set to be sentenced this morning for murdering his wife after a car fire in Swansea. Helen Clarke, 77, died of her injuries after being rushed to hospital with serious burns following an incident near Swansea's Singleton Hospital in September.David Clarke, 80, of Higher Lane, Langland, Swansea, pleaded guilty to her murder when he appeared at Swansea Crown Court in December.

During the earlier hearing, Judge Paul Thomas KC said there could only be one sentence in the case and that was life in prison, and the only question for the sentencing judge would be how long the defendant has to spend in custody before he can apply for release.

Clarke will remain in custody until he is sentenced.Police were called to Sketty Lane in Swansea just after 8.20am on Friday, September 22, by firefighters who were dealing with a burning black Honda Jazz car.

A man and woman were subsequently taken to hospital with burns. Mrs Clarke died on the following Sunday evening in Morriston Hospital. Follow our live updates below:
