LIVE: Armed police swarm area around Piccadilly station - latest updates from the scene

Armed police have swarmed the area around Piccadilly train station this afternoon. A large number of officers were seen on the corner of London Road and Whitworth Street in Manchester city centre, close to where trams exit the station.

Two marked armed response cars; one unmarked car; and a rapid response paramedic vehicle are said to be at the scene, with more emergency service personnel arriving.

The Manchester Evening News has received several reports of a man being injured at around 1.30pm, but the nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed.
