M56 closed in both directions following crash - latest updates

The M65 motorway is closed in both directions after a collision this afternoon (June 29). It reportedly involved a lorry and a car, with the lorry on fire.

An air ambulance was called to the scene with traffic being stopped in both directions. The collision happened between junctions nine and 10 of the M56 heading away from Manchester.

Long delays are being reported in both directions and on surrounding rounds. All emergency services were called to the scene. A National Highways North West post said: "The #M56 in #Cheshire is CLOSED westbound between J9 (#M6) and J10 (#Stretton) due to a collision involving a car and an overturned lorry.

All emergency services are attending the scene. "More information including diversion route details to follow. Long delays both ways." The lorry is reportedly on fire, according to traffic website INRIX: "M56 in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident, a lorry and a car involved between J10 A49 Tarporley Road (Stretton) and J9 M6 J20 (Lymm Interchange).
