LIVE: Armed police swarm area around Piccadilly station - latest updates from the scene

Armed police have swarmed the area around Piccadilly train station this afternoon. A large number of officers were seen on the corner of London Road and Whitworth Street in Manchester city centre, close to where trams exit the station.

Two marked armed response cars; one unmarked car; and a rapid response paramedic vehicle are said to be at the scene, with more emergency service personnel arriving.

A cordon is also in place by the side of Piccadilly station.

The Manchester Evening News has received several reports of a man being injured at around 1.30pm, but the nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said there had been more than one incident in the area.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say there has been 'more than one incident' in the area though the nature of these is not yet known.

We understand British Transport Police (BTP) who police the station, are involved in the response to at least one of them.

The Manchester Evening News has approached both forces for further information.

We have received more than one report of a man being injured. One eyewitness told us she saw a man being stabbed where the trams exit the station at around 1:30pm.

A cordon is now said to be in place.

One person at the scene says a cordon is now in place near the junction of London Road, Fairfield Street, near the Bulls Head pub with all traffic being diverted
