Dwight Yorke has likened Lisandro Martinez to Nemanja Vidic for his 'no half-day' approach to defending during Manchester United's pre-season campaign.
Martinez has sparked anger among rival fans for his combative nature during United's tour of the United States. The Argentinian clattered Bukayo Saka during last week's 2-0 win over Arsenal before a similarly tough challenge on Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham on Thursday.
The challenges angered players from both sides, with Bellingham in particular almost coming to blows with the Reds defender - although it was forgotten quickly.
But Yorke believes it is in Martinez's nature to be 'aggressive' and the former United striker has urged him to carry it through to next season. "The tackle on Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham shows he always plays at a very high intensity, it doesn't matter if it's a Premier League game, pre-season or training, he'd put in the same challenge anywhere. "Nemanja Vidic was that type of player too, he played as he trained.
