Lionel Messi has reportedly yet to accept any of the offers made by Paris Saint-Germain during negotiations to extend his contract beyond the end of this season.
The World Cup winner has three months remaining on the two-year contract signed when arriving in the French capital during the summer of 2021.
There is the option of adding another year to the current agreement should the club and individual each approve the extension although there is uncertainty about whether that will be the case.
Unlike when Manchester City were linked in 2020, there is no reported interest in Messi from the Premier League. A return to Barcelona or a departure from European football entirely to perhaps Inter Miami in the United States or joining former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia are potential alternatives, with a homecoming with boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys now appearing a remote possibility.
