Leeds United could now turn their attention back to former targets, including Wolverhampton Wanderers duo Hwang Hee-chan and Adama Traore, after they pulled out of the race to sign Marseille ace Bamba Dieng, according to transfer insider Dean Jones. Jesse Marsch has overseen a hectic summer of business at Elland Road and negotiations look set to go right up until tonight’s 11pm cut-off in West Yorkshire.

Fabrizio Romano had previously reported that the 22-year-old was set to complete a move to Leeds ahead of tonight’s deadline, with Dan James subsequently being sold to Fulham.

However, Ligue 1 side Nice appear to have hijacked the deal, with the journalist reporting that Dieng received the rival offer while waiting at the airport, before opting to remain in France.

According to 90Min, Leeds turned to the Senegal international after missing out PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo, with the Dutch giants choosing not to sell the winger so late in the window.
