Leeds United would ‘like to remain up to date’ with the situation of PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo, according to journalist Dean Jones. The 23-year-old was on the radar of several Premier League clubs over the summer following an outstanding 2021/22 campaign but ended up staying put at the Philips Stadion.
Manchester United were believed to be interested in snapping up Gakpo as they looked to improve their attacking options before opting to sign Antony from Ajax instead.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano then revealed that both Leeds and Southampton entered the race for the Netherlands international’s signature towards the end of the transfer window.
Romano stated that Leeds had agreed personal terms with Gakpo and offered more than the Saints but were ultimately unable to agree a fee with PSV for their prized asset.
