His goals played a major role in Kilmarnock dodging the relegation trapdoor. But now Kyle Vassell has his targets set on striking down the gate to the top six next season - and with Derek McInnes at the helm the big striker is convinced they’ll do just that.

Despite being hampered by a knee injury Vassell played through the pain barrier and netted four times after the Premiership split in wins over Livingston, Dundee United and the Survival Sunday victory over Ross County.

That 77th minute clincher against the Staggies was the 102nd of the 30-year-old’s wide ranging career that’s seen him play for 20 different clubs since breaking through at Brentford 13 years ago.

And he rates it up there with the most important. Vassell turned his short term contract into a two-year deal last month because he expects to be fighting at the top end of the table in the next campaign.
