The Indian cricket team fought extreme odds to create a situation where they could find themselves in a match-winning situation in the second Test against Bangladesh.

More than two and half days were washed out in the Kanpur Test because of rain and wet outfield, but Rohit Sharma's men decided to go down fighting over letting the match roll into a drab draw.

After India bowled out Bangladesh on Day 4, Rohit led the team's attacking start with the bat, raining boundaries at the Green Park Stadium.

Later, KL Rahul revealed a crystal clear message from skipper Rohit that inspired the team's pyrotechniques with the bat. Team India ended up putting 285/9 on the board on Day 4 before Rohit decided to declare the innings.

After the team's loss to New Zealand in the first Test, India captain Rohit Sharma hinted at the changes they could make for the second game in Pune, starting Thursday, October 24. Despite a fine fightback from Rohit and his men in the second innings after being bowled out for 46 runs in the first, New Zealand held on for their first Test win in India since 1988. Chasing a total of 107 runs, Jasprit Bumrah (2/29) showed some fight for India, but Will Young (48*) and Rachin Ravindra (39*) gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the series.
Skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday asserted that "those three hours" when they collapsed to an unimaginable 46 runs in the first Test against New Zealand, won't define what this Indian team is and any judgement of his players based on that performance will be unfair. New Zealand defeated India by eight wickets in the opening Test of the three-match series despite a valiant fight by the hosts in the second innings in which they scored 462 runs. Rohit said one bad show won't decide his outfit's ability to play quality cricket and mount a comeback from difficult situation.
The fourth day of the ongoing 1st Test between India and New Zealand came to a pre-mature conclusion after bad light initially stopped play, before heavy rain led to early stumps in Bengaluru. Just four balls after New Zealand began their pursuit of 107, the on-field umpires took the reading on the light meter and went off the field, with dark clouds hovering over the stadium. The Indian players expressed their disappointment over the same. However, rain arrived and became heavy to bring an early end to the day's play.
Rohit Sharma was left shellshocked as Virat Kohli was dismissed on the final ball of Day 3 during the first Test match between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru on Friday. Kohli showed tremendous form as he slammed 70 off 102 deliveries with the help of 8 fours and one six. It was extremely important in the context of the match as he stitched together a brilliant partnership with Sarfaraz Khan to take India to a solid position. However, he ended up getting a faint edge on the final ball of the day off Glenn Phillips and wicket-keeper Tom Blundell completed the catch. Kohli was visibly upset with himself after the dismissal while Rohit and the rest of the Indian dressing room was left stunned.
Since India's usual number three Shubman Gill had to sit out of this match with a stiff neck, Virat Kohli walked out in to bat in that position after eight years. However, he perised for a nine-ball duck. After stumps on Day 2, India captain Rohit Sharma said it was Kohli's decision to bat in that position. "The experienced players are the ones who have to take that extra responsibility. It is a good sign. This time, it was Virat. He was the one who was ready to do that. We asked him whether he can bat at number three," Rohit revealed.
With reports suggesting India captain Rohit Sharma is expected to miss one or two Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, fans and experts have been mulling the various options in the team that could be used to replace him. While Jasprit Bumrah has emerged as the clear captaincy pick in Rohit's absence, the hunt for an opening batter is on. Shubman Gill remains one of the biggest candidates for the role but Indian cricket team legend Anil Kumble feels KL Rahul is a better choice.
